Hello Everyone Star Dust Cosplay here with another article! This time I want to talk about something I hold close to my heart. As well as it being something I'm a part of. Let's talk about what exactly is a furry and what the furry fandom is! I will proudly say I'm a furry and a part of the community. So let's talk about that.
So In my recent events I find that we, as furries, are often misjudged and not accepted by society. Mainly, it's just the fact they don't understand furries and don't know much about the furry community. Let's educate them, shall we?
The furry fandom basically consists of people who have fursonas. A persona of an Animal of their choosing, or that matches their feelings/characteristics.
Wikipedia States;
"The furry fandom is a subculture interested in fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics. Examples of anthropomorphic attributes include exhibiting human intelligence and facial expressions, the ability to speak, walk on two legs, and wear clothes. Furry fandom is also used to refer to the community of people who gather on the Internet and at furry conventions."
Furries are really awesome people in my opinion and are great to be around! They love to give hugs and are really great listeners from my experience. They really care about their furry family and well, are always there for a friend in need!
There are likely lots of activities around your community if you're a furry and you want to meet up! In Ottawa there is weekly fur meets as well as the Canfurence convention. Toronto, ON offers Floof for example which is a furry convention and the Ottawa furs host fur events through out the year such as bowling, mini put and so on!
The furry fandom is a growing community and new people are always realising they're a part of the furry family. And furries always welcome new family members with open arms. Its a great community to be a part of!
